TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 12 years of combined experience teaching in the classroom, in outdoor education and as a curriculum designer. Recently, I have designed Earth Science curriculum for Educurious and The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Plant-centric, student-centered, phenomenon based, project based, inquiry-based, relevant and personally meaningful, and rigorous. During graduate school at the University of Washington, I was introduced to Ambitious Science Teaching, a powerfully effective framework for teaching science that makes science accessible to students from all backgrounds and puts the student at the center of learning. I design units using this framework.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Award of Academic Excellence in Environmental Science, Teaching Assistant position at UW that covered tuition and paid a monthly stipend, Lafayette (Ca) Green Award

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Science Education Master’s Degree, June 2015 University of Washington Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science Bachelors, 2009 Bates College, Lewiston, ME

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I see plants as teachers. Whether the plant is a tree in your schoolyard or a growing seedling in the classroom, students discover the wonder of plants first hand in all of my curriculum.
