I have been teaching for fourteen years. I love helping to shape the thinking and learning of children!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Students should learn in an environment that encourages creative thinking, collaboration and perseverance. As a result, I try to facilitate learning not dictate learning. I expect students to do their best and don't accept anything less.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Over the last few years, I have supported efforts build student and staff awareness around environmental issues and slowly transform our school into a green school. Recently, I was awarded a grant to create a garden and an outside classroom.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

In the beginning, I dreamed of being an artist but soon realized that I also had a passion for the history of art. As a result, I earned a B.A. in Art History at the University of Maryland. After graduating, I interned at AVAM (American Visionary Arts Museum) and realized that I loved teaching kids in a creative way and exposing them to art. I decided to become a teacher. I also have a M.A. in Education from Grand Canyon University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach. Most students come into math with preconceived notions about their ability. I quickly dispel myths by teaching from an exploration approach where everyone has a voice and an opinion. By the end of the year, most students love math.
