I have taught 4th grade for thirty years. I cannot dream of teaching any other grade level. Teaching is the only job I have ever wanted. I have taught regular education and inclusion in a self-contained setting, and have taught English language arts in a departmentalized position.
Our classroom is one of discovery and adventure where the students know that they can ask any question. Nothing is as rewarding as watching my students grow into mature, active problem solvers through hands activities that stimulate and encourage them to delve more deeply into a topic. My mission is to help every student make a successful transition from elementary to middle school. I believe independent learners are more personally involved in their own education. When a student is connected and vested in their own learning, they will retain and retrieve information more easily which will allow them to apply the information effectively. Reading for fun can be the key to help students gain this independence. While some individuals naturally enjoy reading, I realize that not every child can reach this on their own. The good thing is that it can be encouraged and supported at school and home. I enjoy helping students discover this empowering activity and watching them grow into mature readers. As an educator, I believe my responsibility is to guide not only the students through their education but also be an asset for their parents. Our technology-based society overloads parents with so much information, often times it is confusing, and conflicting issues arise. It is my goal to be a resource to every family that I can. NOTHING deserves our utmost attention more than the future that is contained within the potential of every child!

When I was a little girl, I would play school with my dolls and stuffed animals. My all-time favorite Christmas present was a tabletop chalkboard. My family includes my handsome husband and my grown sons who have blessed me with 5 gorgeous grandchildren. My youngest child, my daughter, has inspired me with her love of life. Oh, by the way, Schoen means beautiful in German!
