I'm going into my 13th year of teaching. I've spent the majority of my career in as a junior teacher. For the last 3 years, I've been in a straight 5 class! I've been a part of many different teams on my school, focusing on curriculum development in math and literacy.
I am a teacher who whole heartedly believes in student achievement and differentiated instruction. I design my lessons and culminating tasks based on the curriculum and student needs. I don't believe in tests per say, rather, in rich tasks that students can demonstrate their learning. I also love inquiry based learning, and I'm developing new lessons and products all the time to encourage inquiry.
Back in 2007, I received a Primer's Award for best collaborative staff, for participating in a school summer reading program to address the reading level drop of students over the summer months.
I attended university, and attained a degree in Child and Youth Studies. It is a cross between psychology and sociology with a specific focus on children. In my second year of university, I was accepted to the con-ed program, and took some of my teacher college credits during my undergrad. I graduated from CHYS and teacher's college in 2006.
I've been married to my wonderful husband Mike since 2008. We've been together since highschool. We have 2 beautiful sons, Sam, and Logan.
