TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello! I am currently in my 14th year of teaching. I taught 8th grade for three years and then transferred to high school, which I felt was a better fit for me. At the high school I've taught 9 Intensified, 9 Regular, 10 Intensified, 11 Regular, and 11 AP. During summer school, I taught a remedial writing class for students who needed to pass the state writing test in order to get their high school diploma. I am a reading specialist and have tutored struggling readers. I've also mentored one student teacher so far.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am relaxed yet intense at the same time. I like to apply steady pressure to my students, but not so much that they get overwhelmed. My classes are pretty routinized and I manage to cover a lot of ground that way. I like to have students do group work, and I do not lecture for more than ten to fifteen minutes at a time.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Boards Certification.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BA in English from the University of Mary Washington. English 6-12 licensure from the University of Mary Washington. MA in Education and Reading from the University of Virginia. +30 credits in autism, technology integration, and gifted education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I enjoy spending time outside and play a lot of different sports that allow me to get outside in different seasons. My favorite part of being a teacher is seeing a student's writing improve over the course of the year.
