I have one year of experience as a paraprofessional, and I am currently in my 11th year of teaching. I've taught students with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities and autism in grades K-12. In addition to intellectual disabilities or autism, the students I teach have multiple disabilities including speech/language impairments, visual impairments or blindness, are deaf or hard of hearing, and/or have orthopedic impairments. I also enjoy working with students who are medically fragile or have complex communication needs. I currently teach a high school self-contained class for students with autism and multiple disabilities.
My teaching style is a multi-sensory approach. I enjoy incorporating assistive technology into my classroom every chance I get. I enjoy using my creativity to develop materials and experiences that engage all learners. Cultural competence and representation is very important to me. I believe students should see themselves reflected in their classroom materials and beyond.
