I worked for 5 years as an Italian conversation teacher at a private school for foreigners in my city. Since 2022, I have been working as an online tutor, always teaching Italian on Preply.

My style isn't the usual classical approach where the teacher explains the lesson and students have to do exercises. Of course, there's also that when we have to study grammar for example, but I like giving students the chance to learn while having fun with games, interactive activities, and speaking exercises. In my opinion, practice is essential to learn a new language, so I use many speaking activities in class that are also focused on the cultural aspect of the country of origin. I like my students to know our way of life, not just our language. All my resources are in pdf, powerpoint slides, canva, A4 and American letter format. In order to save ink and paper and to be colour blinded students friendly, you can find a black and white version edited with a few pages as possible.

What most gratifies me in my job is when students start speaking my language and feel more confident in expressing themselves. Italian can sometimes be complicated, and seeing their, as well as my own, efforts paid off is the most significant recognition for me. I mainly teach online and travel the world during my working day. Getting to know the stories of my students, how they live, their culture so different from mine, fascinates me more and more every day.

I started producing teaching materials after I left school to focus on distance teaching. I couldn't use copyrighted material, and much of what I found online didn't appeal to me. So, I decided to create what I needed on my own, and after refining it in the classroom, I thought I would like to share it with anyone facing the same difficulties.
