I have taught mainstream and advanced language arts students for twenty-five years in both Illinois and North Carolina. I have been licensed to teach AIG students, English 6-12 and Speech Communications (public speaking). For the past thirteen years I have served as the AIG Coordinator / Advanced Language Arts Instructor for grades 6-8 at Trask Middle School in Wilmington, North Carolina. I retire in April, 2023
I have always been as much coach to our students as I have been instructor. Modeling has always been an important approach for my class and all of my students are used to me stepping up and completing a project first before they even begin their preparations. I'm a firm believer that excellence is most often achieved when your students know exactly the level of quality you are looking for and they can witness your willingness to take chances to show them how that is accomplished.
I have been New Hanover County's AIG Teacher of the Year and North Carolina's Runner-up AIG Teacher of the Year. Our programs have been written up in numerous Chicago and North Carolina newspaper articles, as well as the magazines: TIME For Kids and American Girl.
