I worked as a homeroom teacher in a Japanese Immersion English Kindergarten before opening my own ESL school in Japan which serves children from 1 through adults. I have 20 years of experience in teaching English. I currently am a full-time lecturer of English at a prominent medical university in Japan. In 2011, I opened my publishing company, The English Garden, and many teachers in Japan and America are using my books and songs. I have also taught ESL children in China and held teacher training seminars throughout Japan and also in Vietnam. I designed an English and Social-Emotional Learning curriculum for ages 4 through 15 for a large company in Vietnam.
I believe learning should be creative and enjoyable. I often employ music, chants, and movement in my lessons because I believe this helps to move new concepts and vocabulary from working memory to long-term memory in a way that is faster and easier. I try to get my students of all ages to use their higher faculties of learning which I call MR PIWI (Memory, Reason, Perception, Intuition, Will, and Imagination).
