TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Since age five, I have been excited about sharing my knowledge with others. While all the other kids my age wanted to play tag or hide-and-seek outdoors, I voluntarily confined myself to a fake classroom in my bedroom, hung a mini chalkboard on the dresser and made sure that all of my stuffed animals were well-equipped for their first day of school! Not counting these childhood games, I've been in education for over 13 years in many different roles: as a tutor, library aide, volleyball coach, IB examiner and high school U.S. and World History teacher.

MY TEACHING STYLE

History is not a collection of facts and dates to be memorized but a complex weave of decision-makers, competing motives and possible alternatives. I like to introduce students to these diverse perspectives but leave them to arrive at their own conclusions. My lessons often feature traditionally underrepresented voices, such as those of women, people of color and indigenous populations.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Everyday small “big” moments such as a good question coming from a seemingly apathetic student or an impromptu current affairs debate.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Formally: BA in History BA in Political Science and International Relations Grades 6-12 WI Social Studies Teacher License Informally: I’m an avid reader, curious traveler and practitioner of mindfulness in all things.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have lived and attended school in two different countries: Belarus and the United States - this experience certainly makes it interesting to teach about the Cold War!
