Small Learning Community Team Leader:
Work interdependently with team of teachers to achieve common goals for which team members hold themselves mutually accountable. In fulfilling this role, I am responsible for such functions as leading my team in preparing and utilizing team norms, planning agendas, chairing meetings, serving as a direct communications link between the administration and the faculty, leading the work my team in analyzing and improving student learning data, seeking out and experimenting with best practices, leading the collaborative development and attainment of learning improvement goals, and identifying and communicating professional development needs. I work continually to enhance the effectiveness of my team by ensuring that the team focuses on the critical questions and practices associated with improving student learning in a manner that is reflective of the highest quality.
Data Coach:
Serve as a mentor to the data team to strengthen the use of data in the school. My primary role is to model various uses of data, which the data team can then model for school staff. The coaching process includes modeling how department chairs, teacher teams, and instructional and literacy coaches can use data to examine the effectiveness of instructional strategies; how SLC teams can use data to monitor the progress of students on multiple measures; and how data can be used to identify areas of strength in student learning, as well as areas for improvement.
Consultant for the Implementation of Small Learning Communities:
Consult district teachers in the creation of an environment in high schools that allow for the successful implementation of small learning communities. My responsibility was to support interdisciplinary teams to develop long-term visions for the transformations of district high schools in learning communities, develop a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and to make a commitment to continuous professional growth.
CHANGING the way STUDENTS see MATHEMATICS!
"...By looking at the clusters’ specific strand proficiency, weaknesses were evident in the mean percent proficient for measurement and algebraic thinking to be 20% and 27%, respectively. To ensure student learning strategic curricular decisions were made to improve the students’ weaknesses while providing enrichment for student strengths. I sequenced district aims, unit goals, and lesson objectives to maximize and engage
the students in questioning, formulating, thinking and theorizing to construct new knowledge.
As an introduction to my Algebra 1 course, I ask students what they would do if life gave them lemons. The response is always make lemonade. I quickly exclaim, “I am going to teach you ALL how to sell it!”. I stress that if they believe that they are bad at math, it is only because it was never presented to them in the way they needed. I will do anything to reach my students. I use comedy, dance, and songs to motivate and assist my students in learning. The result is that my students are excited when they walk into my classroom. They are excited to learn math. Using my creativity and knowledge of various teaching techniques, I was able to reach my cluster of students’ needs..."
