I love inquiry based education and all things EXPRESSIVE. I’ve been working with kids ages 0 - 15 for the past 15 years as an early childhood educator, music instructor and creative writing mentor for kids and teachers. I also teach ukulele and Creativity in the Classroom to early childhood educators. I’m so excited to be sharing my love for words and stories with you and resources for inspiring kids and youth to find their own words and stories in multimedia and print.
My teaching style is Emergent and Inquiry Based and is largely based on the Storytelling Method so kids can delve deeper in the context of stories and the POV of the story characters.

Lorrie’s training includes her studies in early childhood education where she obtained her license to practice along with undergraduate studies in communications, creative writing and film studies from Capilano University, Peer Counselling Certificate from UBC, and script writing from Vancouver Film School. She also has her Kindermusic license and once she became a parent, she studied both piano and voice for about two years in private lessons so she would sound pleasing to her daughter’s ear.
Lorrie brings with her over ten years of experience working with children as an early childhood educator, early learning music instructor and creative writing mentor for middle schoolers and teens. When not sharing her love for writing and music with kids and teens, Lorrie is busy working as the editor for the popular kids blog, www.kidsnewsandreviews.com where she mentors youth change-makers and teachers to write stories with her. Lorrie has also recently taken on the role of assistant editor for BC Parent Newsmagazine, www.bcparent.ca where she is busy developing the education and arts content. Lorrie’s passion for children’s writing and music comes from her diverse background in experience, education, and private training. The first half of Lorrie’s career was spent working as a lifestyle and tourism writer and columnist for various local magazines including Suburban Living, Vancouver Elite Magazine, Vancouver Lifestyles Magazine, and also writing a food & wine column for North Shore Outlook. Lorrie is passionate about working with young children and sharing her creativity with them through language arts and music and also loves bringing her own children’s books and music into the classroom and finds so much inspiration to work on her creative project through the words and actions of the children she spends so much time guiding & caring.
