I have 17 years of elementary teaching experience. Most of my teaching days were in the 5th-grade classroom - my favorite age group. I also taught for four years as a technology specialist, teaching grades 1-5th. I had the unique opportunity to work as an instructional designer for a nationwide online school for one year. Using my teacher experience and job skills, I worked for four years as a project manager for a non-profit organizer. Now, I am the director of communication services for the same nonprofit organization.
I would say my teaching style is a combination of teaching styles. I don't approach teaching students as one size fits all. . Sometimes, student learning is instructor-focused teaching—where I guide the learning experience. In this type of lesson, students need direct instruction to understand what's expected of them. Another teaching style I use is student-focused teaching—allowing the student to be partially in change. This allows room for more creative and active learning. This helps the student to acquire a sense of responsibility. Lastly, I like to incorporate a collaboration-driven teaching style. I use this teaching style more in the second half of the school year, once students have practiced cooperation procedures successfully. This teaching style relies heavily on project-based learning in student groups. The goal of this teaching style is for learning to reflect “real-world issues.” I love this style because it gets my students working together in pairs, small groups, or even as an entire class to solve problems and explore complex topics.
