Teacher Island

I have over a decade of experience as a passionate teacher and new teacher development coach. During my time as an upper elementary teacher, I have become a Florida High Impact Teacher and Teacher of the Year. Currently, I coach and support new teachers in grades K-8 across the district impacting 6,500 students. I have also taught in Atlanta, GA, Tulsa, OK, and London, UK. Additionally, I design and develop professional development to ensure that our new teachers acquire critical knowledge, skills, and mindsets to achieve their academic and leadership goals. I enjoy facilitating workshops and staff development as well as mentoring new teachers.

I believe that the most successful teachers build connections with their students. Students need to know that their teachers care about them and are holding them to high expectations. I truly care about my students and want them to be enthusiastic life-long learners. Joy is a huge part of my classroom culture. If I'm having fun, my students are having fun while learning! My teaching style is engaging, student-centered, collaborative, hands-on, fun, innovative, standards-driven, and involves critical thinking. My goal is to create high-quality products for teachers that can be easily implemented for student use. Many of my products are also aligned to the Common Core Standards as well as the Florida Standards.

Teacher of the Year recipient for the 2015-2016 school year. Recognized by the Florida Department of Education as a High Impact Teacher in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Ranked in the top 30% of Florida’s Best Public School Teachers based on student growth in reading and mathematics for seven consecutive years. Awarded the “Race To The Top” Grant for being one of the top 30 teachers in Miami-Dade County based on state assessment scores. Rookie Teacher of the Year nominee in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University in Elementary Education. I also hold a Florida K-6 Teaching Certificate, a Michigan K-8 Teaching Certificate, a English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement, and a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Certification.
