TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I strongly believe that “people rise to the expectations we set for them”. This has influenced the style in which I teach and the philosophy that I bring to my classroom throughout the course of my career. I enter any classroom with the knowledge that every student is already successful and that every child deserves and can experience an enriching and enjoyable education. One of my influences is Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan. They are both inspirations to me in what they accomplished, demonstrating resilience and persistence, as well as showing that proper guidance can mitigate a disability. At the special needs school where I was an RECE, I worked alongside an excellent Behavioural Therapist who became a genuine role model for me. He introduced me to effective learning strategies, specific to each student that emphasized the importance of scaffolding. He emphasized how a child’s well-being, vastly affects their ability to feel confident when learning. I am a strong advocate of viewing students holistically and with empathy, providing them with an opportunity to voice what is most meaningful to their needs and aspirations. After I have completed my Bachelor of Education degree, I would like to continue studying and perhaps work towards attaining a PhD in education, related to children with disabilities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The page is called "teach with your heart" as I believe that teaching is a work of heart. I work very hard to teach holistically and to emphasize the importance of empathy, authenticity, and passion in the teaching profession.
