I have been a teacher for 34 years now. WOW! To see that in print is mind blowing. Most of that time was spent in inner-city elementary school and a few secondary classrooms teaching vocal music. During those years a earned a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and taught evenings at the local University. I left inner-city to go teach on an island in the South Pacific-best decision of my life. Really helped me renew myself and reminded me why I love to teach. Created curriculum and taught during the day and swam in the ocean in the afternoons. Went back to school to earn my ESL certification. Not a bad life, I returned home to be with family and am now teaching at Job Corps. Totally different than anything I ever thought I would do, but rewarding.
If it's fun, they will learn. I use lots of games and centers to teach concepts. Praise even the smallest increase and genuinely care about each student.
