TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught high school English, and have worked as a Literacy Coach, curriculum and professional learning coordinator, data coach, and high school principal, primarily serving in schools and districts with large Title I populations. I now support teachers and school leaders as a professional learning consultant.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My unit and lesson plans include elements of the Understanding by Design framework. Many lessons will follow a 5-step lesson plan, including an opening or set, introduction to new material, guided practice, independent practice, and closing. Others might follow a close reading format. Lesson and unit plans include research-based strategies to ensure student success. My professional development plans include topics such as literacy, Common Core State Standards implementation, assessment, and planning. All professional development includes engagement strategies teachers could apply to the classroom, modeled for adult learners. The research or experts to support the ideas shared with teachers are cited in the plan.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was awarded a fellowship through Arizona State University to pursue educational leadership.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My Master's degree in secondary education comes from Arizona State University. I have a reading endorsement. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Southern Methodist University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I hope the resources offered here support other teachers as we, collectively, work toward ensuring all students have the opportunity for a high-quality education that prepares them for college and careers.
