Dr. Jacqueline Sund: Retired college professor in the field of design, I spent the last 6 years as a volunteer tutoring kindergarten and 1st graders. Horrified at the lack of attention to handwriting education in today's classrooms, I set about to design a more efficient way to both teach and learn this essential fine motor skill. Handwriting is a complex activity which contributes significantly to brain development and is directly related to both math and reading competence. We cannot afford to drop it from early education as it is quite foundational.
Form follows function.
World Vision makes Sunshine Script handwriting and phonics materials available at no cost to World Vision KidREACH tutors and to teachers of schools with 70% subsidized lunch programs through World Vision's Teacher Resource Centers.
Dr. Sund holds a Doctorate of Education from Seattle University and taught at the University of Washington and Western Washington University.
We are always interested in developing ways to improve education, and we welcome opportunities to research the effectiveness of our program. If you are interested in conducting classroom studies in effective outcomes, please contact us.
