I have taught middle school for the last four years, teaching primarily life science, with a little environmental science as well. Before transitioning into teaching, I was pursuing my passion of biology as a marine scientist. For four years before moving into a traditional classroom, I worked as a Marine Specialist and Educator at a local aquarium, where I designed and conducted programs for elementary school, middle school, and high school students as well as special interest groups. I am in the process of taking my passion and experience as a scientist to motivate middle schoolers to get involved in their own learning!
In my classroom, students expect to be the ones asking the questions! We practice inquiry-based learning through hands on activities, labs, and projects. Students are encouraged to bring their personal interests into the classroom so that we can always try to answer "Why do we have to learn this?" by giving real world examples. While making science relevant, we are more importantly making science fun!
