I have taught special education in the elementary setting for over 20 years before recently moving to the middle school setting in 2020. I have had the pleasure of serving children with various physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities. I have worked with children with mild to severe disabilities, primarily in the small group setting. My focus in the middle school is adapted curriculum with a focus on life skills and behavior.
I use a combination of styles to meet the individual needs of my students including ABA techniques and prompts for error free learning. Students who feel successful learn more effectively.
In 2018, I was teacher of the Year for my School.
I have a Bachelors in Special Education and a Masters of Arts in Elementary Mathematics Instruction. I also have training in Applied Behavior Analysis
As a teacher of students with disabilities, I work very closely with parents and caregivers. After seeing many of the same struggles with behavior from family to family, I was inspired to write a book to help parents and caregivers overcome behavioral challenges. "Ending the Power Struggle: 5 Stategies for Parents of Children with Disabilities" gives 5 quick and easy to implement suggestions to see improvement in behavior of students with disabilities. Available on Amazon, this book is a must read for parents and teachers who are not sure how to impact students' behavior for the better. Check it out today @ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q6R9L54
