About the owner: Ruth Finsthwait has extensive experience diagnosing learning disabilities and developing learning strategies for students to overcome and excel. Earlier in her career she worked as a bilingual elementary grade teacher serving inner city children where instruction was delivered primarily in Spanish. She also worked for The Childrens Health Council (www.chconline.org) where she performed educational assessments and wrote a curriculum on learning to help students discover their personal learning profile. About our Curriculum: SpanishCurriculum.com Spanish Immersion curriculum has been developed and tested over the last 14 years with the help of bilingual educators and language experts. Our products are tailored for the immersion environment to address all areas of language development- reading, writing, listening and speaking in Spanish. We then test the efficacy of our curriculum by putting it to use in programs all over the Sacramento region and at our Private Education Facility in Granite Bay, CA. Our partnerships with Charter, IB and Private schools has enabled us to remain sensitive to the needs and demands on today’s teachers and administrators. This refining process ensures what and how your students learn is effective and relevant to their future. Each Spanish level contains 8 units of theme based content that is fully scripted with lesson plans that are aligned with the California World Language Standards. Curriculum Structure: -Each Spanish level has 8 units of content which covers lesson plans from Sept – May -Each of the 8 Units has 3 weeks of new content followed by a 4th week of review and assessment -The only exception is Unit 3 which is 7 weeks to accommodate the school holiday schedule -There are a total of 140 fully scripted lesson plans per level History: My husband and I were on a mission to find an raise 3 young children to be bilingual. We set out to find a program in our area that would help them develop the ability to read, write and speak in Spanish. Well, as you can imagine, we came up frustrated. That summer (2006) we started a free Spanish classes for 15 neighborhood kids in our garage. Sombrero Time was a true garage startup! Later that fall we were successful in opening a program at our local elementary school. From there we really grew. What started 6 years ago has grown into a business with programs that impact over tens of thousands of children across the USA and Europe. I am excited to share what I have learned along the way with you. I am deeply familiar with the challenges any unsupported Spanish teacher faces.
