Hi y'all! I am a fifth year teacher in Virginia. I had a lot of independence in my first year teaching, so I sought out or made a lot of my own materials - which is how I found TPT! My teammates have been very supportive of trying new things, and I love to share with you all!
I'm of two minds. We have to prepare the kids for the future, but also maintain their interest from day to day. I spend time on topics from generating ideas and brainstorming, through active movement and song, on to answering critical questions and test-prep. I am very cognizant of those times when you have 20 pairs of eyes glazed over staring at you in the front of the room and I try to avoid that at all costs!
I have had the honor of being chosen by my colleagues as our school's Teacher of the Year for 2015-2016! It means a lot to be recognized for the hard work my kids and I put in every day. My shining moment was when one of my struggling readers, identified for assistance in the fall, told me in the spring that his favorite subject is reading! I'm so happy to have celebrated growth with his family!
I have an undergrad degree in Anthropology/Archaeology. I completed my teaching degree after working for about six years and I am currently looking into graduate programs.
I live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Virginia!
