"So that we can think and rethink, so that we can create new visions, I celebrate teaching that enables transgressions—a movement against and beyond boundaries. It is that movement which makes education the practice of freedom.” -bell hooks

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I teach middle school U.S. history and Civics/Economics in Virginia. I teach students at various academic levels, including self-contained Gifted students. I have been named the district Rookie Teacher of the Year as well as a Virginia History Day District Teacher of the Year.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Students should be challenged to take control of their own learning experience through project-based learning and inquiry-based learning. Inclusive history and diversity are vital for students as they grow to understand that our past is inseparable from our present. Student discussions, projects, and choice provide students a chance to use higher-level thinking to delve deep into the historical questions of the past and what they mean to their own lives. Students should ask themselves - how can our past change our future, and what can I do to help it?
