I have been licensed as both a School Counselor and a Director of Special Education and Pupil Services. I spent 7 years as a School Counselor and Coordinator of Pupil Services in a Special Education (Alt Ed/Setting 4) site that supported students on IEPs as they focused on behavior strategies that would help them be successful as they transitioned back to their neighborhood schools. Currently I am working as a Behavior Intervention Specialists for the largest district in my state!
I like to get to know my students so I can design lessons that they can access. I believe that all students are capable of learning, and all students WANT to learn. I like to differentiate my lessons to meet their learning styles and interest levels. When it comes to data collection I like to keep things simple. If there are pieces in place I like to create things that align with current practices. For me data should be usable- not just an addition "thing we need to do" but something that helps guide our decision making and help determine best practices for staff (when deciding next steps with students).
