TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the past 15 years, I have gained a variety of school counseling experiences. I have worked with more than 3,000 students across all levels (PreK to 12th Grade), and also took on a 2nd job as a Behavioral Specialist for many years to help a large caseload of students diagnosed with ASD. Four years ago, I took on a newly created role of K-12 Trauma Counselor, where I now help to train staff on trauma-informed practices and also provide specific services to students and families. I have helped to train faculty/staff on evidence-based Behavior Management practices, worked on an ISF leadership team, and served as a school-wide PBIS Coach for 9 years. In addition, I have been fortunate to present on PBIS topics at both the state and national level, and look forward to presenting in the coming years on implementing trauma-informed practices within the school and community settings.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to use a variety of different teaching methods for guidance lessons, but at the elementary level I just LOVE reading to my students! I try to find a relevant Read Aloud for every lesson, and will often use books by Julia Cook! Almost all of my lessons feature activities, opportunity for movement, planned transitions, opportunity for creativity, discussion, and lots of interaction! My goal is to keep students so engaged and excited about a topic that minimal behavior management interventions will need to be utilized!
