I began teaching in a one room, kindergarten through eighth grade school. I continued working in one or two room facilities for seven years. Eighteen years ago, I took a fifth grade position in a rural, town school. In my current position, I teach reading, language arts, and science. I also tutor students enrolled in the after school program in the areas of reading and math.
My classroom is usually filled with students working in groups or on projects. I am the conductor of the learning. As students are working, I am circulating the room - refocusing, answering questions, and giving feedback. Lecture is only used to set the stage and give background knowledge.
