Shelly has been teaching for the last 20 years in the states of Oregon and Washington. She has taught at all levels, with the majority of time at the middle school level. She currently teaches at University Prep, in Seattle, WA, teaching 6th and 7th grade P.E. and Health.
Shelly’s philosophy regarding teaching Middle School P.E. is one that she wants her students to see the value of becoming lifelong movers, and positive impacts in their communities. Her goal is to find something that they enjoy and value. She believes this by showing and exposing her students to as many physical activities, sports, and fitness opportunities. She hopes that each of her students will find at least one they are passionate about and develop their confidence and positive self-esteem resulting in a lifetime of success. “Meet them where they are at and find joy in what you do!”
Shelly was awarded the SHAPE America Middle School National P.E. Teacher of the year for 2015/2016, Northwest District Middle School Teacher of the Year 2014, Washington State Teacher of the Year 2013.
Shelly received her BA at Concordia University, and her Masters Degree at Southern Oregon University.
