I am beginning my 17th year teaching primary students in the state of Kentucky. I have taught all primary grades (K-3) as well as serving as a reading specialist and teaching the Read to Achieve program for struggling readers in the primary grades. During the 2012-2013 school year, I will be in my 3rd year teaching Kindergarten in the mornings and Read to Achieve in the afternoons. Though I love both positions, it is my hope and my PRAYER that I will soon be able to teach Kindergarten all day. When I entered into my first Kindergarten assignment just 2 years ago, I quickly learned that this was my niche! Kindergarten is my CALLING! In my mind, when it comes to teaching, "There is simply NOTHING better than a room full of five-year-olds!"
I am a very active teacher. In my experience, students need to feel highly valued and genuinely cared about to pull up the needed confidence to learn and produce in the classroom. Children learn a great deal from active engagement, therefore I use much music and dance in the teaching of basic information.
