TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teacher of four years with AP experience. I have also worked as a tutor for state standardized tests and have worked in the education field for ten years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to focus on literature and nonfiction that I know my students will enjoy without bogging them down with background information. My students know me as the teacher who won't give them tests but will instead force them to create their own meaning from what we read in class. I avoid the textbook at all costs but love to create less-conventional, more rigorous ways of examining a text. I do tend to be a little more "old school" when it comes to grammar and writing, however. Literary analysis and research is not always the way to go when students write, but I do think that it helps them tremendously still.
