I am a 5th year California high school English 9 and 10 teacher whose class is student-centered and highly collaborative based. My class is structure to begin each lesson reviewing the objective, agenda, and co-created norm statements followed by a short presentation of a new topic and time to practice in pairs applying the new skill/understanding. This leads to students individually practicing their newly acquired knowledge or skill and then sharing their responses with the class. My class is has a heavy emphasis on reading, writing, and student-centered discussions and prompts.
My teaching style is very student-centered with me providing students with all the tools necessary to solve a problem and show their mastery of a skill and then allowing students to lead conversations and inquiry. Lessons are tailored to ensure every student regardless of learning disability, reading level, or language barrier can easily access and complete any activity.
I have been recognized for the attention to detail to each lesson that ensure access to the learning for all students as well as my attention to ensure each lesson is differentiated and adhering to the rigor of the Common Core State Standards.
