Science Island

I have taught high school science for 18 years, mostly in Hawaii. My primary experience is teaching Biology, AP Biology, and Human Anatomy & Physiology, but I have also taught Physical Science, Earth Science, and Ecology. My favorite years of teaching were those on the North Shore of Oahu in the tiny little town of Waialua.

Learning should be fun and relevant. Incorporating a variety of activities to engage students in thinking about and doing science is always my priority. I believe students should experience science also, which is why I have taken every opportunity to work with students outside the classroom in experiences such as collecting data on an active NOAA marine research vessel, getting face-to-face with sharks in a shark cage, studying volcanoes and parts of the rain forest with AP Biology students in Costa Rica, counting humpback whales on Oahu, and learning astronomy with students on Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

After many wonderful years in Hawaii, I now live back home in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area with my husband and two children. I am retired from public school teaching and enjoying my new adventure on TpT.
