TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught high school science courses for the last 9 years including low-level and college prep. I have experience in teaching Biology, Earth Science and Integrated Science. Being in California, all of my materials are linked to CA Science Standards and the proposed CA NGSS where applicable.. A great many of my students are English Learners and that fact permeates my lessons.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in a hands-on approach to teaching. Being a former scientist (if you can be "former") I am contantly revising my curriculum to make it as effective as possible for my students. My products have been created and tweaked with special attention to both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Numerous grants and awards.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BS in Biology. MS in Plant Pathology. MA in Education Administration. Single Subject Credential in Life Science. Preliminary Adminstrative Credential.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have lived in different places and performed many jobs. I was a professional scientist for a lot of years, then became a high school science teacher in my 30's. I am married with two children. We are foster parents and belong to a local church of Christ. I have also taught at several local community colleges as well as a for-profit university.
