Sage Urban Homesteading

I credit Girl Scouts for giving me my first teaching experiences. I also worked at an ESL program for awhile and taught all ages. I have presented programs at public libraries and also worked at a public library before I began my adventures in homesteading and homeschooling.

I believe learning happens when you are interested in the subject, so I try to find a way to appeal to the student's interests. I like to play and be creative, so the Waldorf and Reggio styles really appeal to me.

I was a straight A, honor roll student who attended public schools, but I always wanted to be homeschooled. I taught myself stuff at home. I earned a BA in theater arts with a summa cum laude and departmental honors. I took several education classes but chose not to complete a teaching certificate. I actually had professors beg me to become a teacher because I clearly had an interest and they thought I would be so good, but I knew that I did not like the public school system. I considered becoming a Montessori teacher, but that wasn't quite right either. I didn't discover Waldorf until later, or I might have pursued a degree in that. I ended up working at an ESL program and then a library. For fun and to satisfy my curiosity, I have toured a variety of different types of schools, public and private. I know a lot about the wide variety of educational styles.

I am a proud homeschooling mommy. I have family members with vision development issues, so I have researched a lot about that topic to prevent problems with my own children.
