Classroom Teacher since 2005. Five years as a School Garden Coordinator and Educator in charge of lesson planning and supplies for a program that included the support of 50 parent volunteers. Our school program grew to allow over 500 children weekly scheduled learning in the school garden. I have also taught numerous home gardening classes and camps for both children and adults.
Warm, hands-on, multi-modality instruction that incorporates scaffolded lessons that build community and character development. My garden lessons integrate other subject areas to provide real-world relevance while promoting life-long appreciation for healthy homegrown food and environmental responsibility.
Our school program has been the recipient of numerous school garden grants, from organizations such as Ag in the Classroom, due to the sustainable and impactful instruction.
Bachelor's Degree in both Spanish and Communication. California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Masters Degree in Cross-cultural Education
Almost every aspect of my life, both professional and personal, has led me to pursue my passion for getting kids outdoors and learning about the food they eat and the world we inhabit. I love lesson planning for garden instruction because I've seen the magic that happens in children when they get their hands dirty and experience the miracles of science. There also isn't another learning opportunity that I am aware of that is as inclusive while building community.
