TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an elementary general music teacher for 13 years, and did one year of high school choir teaching to kick off my career. I have also been on staff with an Indiana class A marching band for 20 years and have a tuba and euphonium studio serving mostly high school students. I have taught in Title I schools my entire career. I still play a lot of tuba, guitar, and bass guitar and enjoy studying/practicing recording arts and electronic music while song writing.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am passionate about building great community and relationships in my classroom above all else, leaning on trauma informed care and restorative practices. I want students to leave my elementary classroom prepared for any next steps in music they choose to take, but also with the understanding of how music can be a part of their lives and who they are no matter what they choose to do in life. Rhythm literacy, music appreciation, general instrumental and vocal foundations, and some movement experience are key elements my students move on to middle school with.
