Rachel, recipient of the 2021 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Teaching Champion award from the Council for Economic Education, revolutionized financial literacy with a SpongeBob-themed lesson on taxes. Her innovative approach made learning about taxes fun and engaging, earning her top honors in the field!
Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Atmospheric Science, graduating Cum Laude from SUNY Albany. She also earned a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from CUNY Hunter with a perfect 4.0 GPA and a Post-Baccalaureate Initial Certification in Secondary Mathematics from CUNY Queens. With a New York State Professional Certificate in Mathematics for Grades 7-12, Rachel was honored as a 2021 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Teaching Champion by the Council for Economic Education.
Rachel brings a wealth of experience in teaching diverse groups, including special needs and ELL students. She has taught 7th Grade General Education, 7th Grade Honors, Algebra 1, Geometry, Financial Literacy, and CLEP College Mathematics. At her High School, Rachel impressively raised the Algebra 1 regents exam passing rate for re-takers from 10% to over 50% within her first four years. As the LEAP department Coordinator, she managed six teachers working with at-risk students and trained a new College and Career Readiness teacher. Rachel also designed and executed four successful Enrichment Week curriculums: The Science of Food, The ELA in Movies, Mathematics of Amusement Parks, and Science of Machines. She served as the Writing Revolution Site Team Leader and Digital Learning Specialist, handling all educational technology issues. As Assessment Data Coordinator, Rachel created and analyzed spreadsheets for Interim Assessment data. Additionally, she has experience as a Math Content Writer for New Classrooms and as a Teacher/Tutor for The Princeton Review.
