I am a 22 year veteran of education, mostly bilingual K/1 and English as a New Language K-5. I have also dabbled in teaching upper elementary, high school, adults, and teachers. I now coach teachers and offer professional development for teachers of ELs. Our best ideas are often those we get from walking into another teacher's room!
I'll probably never win a game of Trivial Pursuit and don't ask me to identify movies, actors, or cars, but I could still bargain in a Turkmen market--in Turkmen or Russian--and I haven't been there almost 25 years. Ah, the curious human brain! It does help me remember our learners are all different, with their own uniquely functioning brains and learning styles. I try to provide a variety or learning experiences and materials for them when I teach.
National Board Certified Teacher in English as a New Language--completed in one whirlwind year in the before-times.
