TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist with 18 years of experience in all venues. I began my career in the medical field and continued to schools, daycares and homehealth therapy. I earned a BA in English/Psychology in 1994, BA in Speech Pathology in 1997, and Master of Speech Pathology in 2000. I currently have 30 hours into PH.D. I spent my first 5 years in the medical field and followed up as a certified teacher in the schools and daycares. I love working with children and I know my craft. I am not afraid to make the children work, encourage them and ultimately teach them to be successful. I am fulfilled when they realize how smart they are!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I encourage a whole child approach. I have been very successful with the pre-K through 5th population and entire body involvement. I love to mix music, movement, repetition, rhyme, and basic skills tasks into a conglomeration of learning fun. Fun storytelling that engages the brain and brings out childhood emotion is amazing in a classroom. I don't encourage teaching entire lessons while the children are sitting at a table or desk. They get jittery quickly and I get frustrated! My background in special needs has required ingenuity and creativity to keep children focused- and sometimes you do what you have to do. I strongly encourage brain breaks and "crazy time." The children realize the humanity of the teacher and begin to build trust more easily when they are having fun in the learning environment.
