I began as a band director, holding various positions at the high school and middle school levels for six years. I then launched into teaching middle school Language Arts, and have been in this field now for more than a decade.
My students are far more important than anything I have to teach them, and yet it is precisely what I have to teach them that will help empower them to fully realize who they are. My teaching style dances in and around this tension, always seeking to give students opportunities to explore themselves as we discover the world of literature.
The appreciation of my students--there is no higher honor.
My life is full of art, music, literature, and wonderful people. More formally, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master's Degree in Creative Writing with an emphasis in fiction from National University.
My name is Bert Aguirre. I am both an academic and an artist at heart. In my teaching, I am always seeking to be the catalyst that helps students to realize a meaning, an importance, and a potential that they have not known before.
