I've taught in a pull-out ESL program for Arabic bilingual students in the public school setting for 10 years. In addition, I've taught many university courses while studying for my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction including courses on language and culture, methods for teachers of English languages learners and culturally diverse students, and assessment of diverse students. I also provide professional development addressing the needs of Muslim Arabic-speaking students, sheltered instruction, and students with limited or interrupted formal education.
Eclectic! I don't think that there is one right way to teach. A great teacher looks at her/his students and asks, "What do I need to do to help my students be the best they can be...in the classroom and in their lives?" My favorite quote is from Paulo Freire: “The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves.”
