I am in my 12th year teaching middle school choir. I developed my own curriculum 6th grade 'General Music' / 'Music Rotation' when there wasn't any to be found! I've spent 11 out of my 12 years as a head choir director, 1 year as an associate director. I am a member of my campus PBIS committee, tardy committee, and advisory committee. I am a 10 year member of the Houston Symphony Chorus and new member of Casulana Women's Chorus, and I firmly believe that the best way to connect with my choir students is for my own singing experiences to be continuous!
I teach with a skeleton plan, and add everything that pops into my mind in between. My students appreciate that I incorporate their day-to-day happenings, thoughts, and feelings. If it's beautiful outside, we go outside! If it's the holiday season, we walk to the front office and perform for our administrative staff. My goal for my students is to feel a sense of belonging and community, while learning along the way!
Teacher of the Month (March), 2013 Varsity Tenor Bass Choir selected to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, 2014 (associate director) Varsity Mixed Choir selected to perform at the Hear the Future Invitational, 2015 (head director) Spotlight Teacher Nominee, 2016 Tenor-Bass Choir Commended National Choral Honors, 2017 (head director)
A native of North Texas, I attended Montessori school until 3rd grade. After transitioning into public school, I attended public school from 4th through 12th grade. I participated in choir programs through my public schools for 9 years. After high school, I attended Baylor University to major in Music Education, focusing on choral music. During college, I taught voice lessons in Waco ISD, and received much of my early teaching experience through Waco ISD schools. I completed student teaching at Midway HS and Hillcrest PDS, both in Waco, TX.
Besides teaching choir, I also love teaching yoga! I became a Registered Yoga Teacher in the winter of 2015 and have been teaching classes every since. I also teach yoga to the faculty at my school because, we all know, we need 'zen' the MOST! I recently began kickboxing and finding other athletic outlets that help me keep my mind in the zone for the classroom!
