Hi, I am currently a 11th year veteran teacher. I am a dual certified Special Education and General Education teacher. I also have my masters in Applied Behavior Analysis and I am also currently working on my certification to be a BCBA as well as a NBCT. I have previously taught for 4 years in an self contained ED (Emotional Disability) classroom. This is where I learned that the emotional needs of my students will always come 1st, and academics came 2nd however, they were still a huge priority for us. This taught me alot about classroom management and setting up the expectations for all of my students. I have two years experience teaching general education for 3rd and 6th grade. Don't tell anyone but those third graders where prolly my favorite group of kiddos and reminded me why I got into teaching in the 1st place. this was also the 1st year of teaching in a pandemic and really made me question my teaching skills. It is tough but my spirits are always high. The other 3 years of experience comes from teaching resource K-2 and 5-6 what opposite ends of the spectrum for sure, But have really helped me to see the growth and difference you can make in a child's life. Its kinda funny how the world goes full circle but I am now currently back teaching in a self contained ED classroom with 5th and 6th grade students.
My teaching style has varried over the years but I have always taken a more "firm" approach to teaching. Persay my job isn't necessarily to be their friend but rather the guide or director that helps my kiddos achieve their end goal of success. In the ED environment you have to set up strict expectations/rules and follow through. I have always held the bar high and students have always met or exceeded that bar. We create a FAMILY style enviornment and my kiddos truly know that I love them and truly care about them.
