TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my third year of teaching music to students ages 3-12, and I lead some of my older students in an after school choir. I am also worship music coordinator, church accompanist, and wedding musician. (carlibollin.wordpress.com) I'm a member of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra Chorus as well as the vocal ensemble, Transept.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My goal each day is to make my students fall in love with music, but also to make them feel seen and heard. We focus a lot on fairness and kindness so my kids know that music is for EVERYONE! One of my favorite end-of-class questions from some of the littles is "can we give hugs?" Of COURSE we can give hugs! Embracing our emotions and finding joy in creating music are essential parts of a child's learning experience. Helping students use music to express themselves unlocks lifelong skills that will serve them well. As a second grader recently wrote to me, "you can make a diffrens in music. You can make a diffrens everwhere. You make my day bright even if I am happy all ready!" If I can share that message with my students enough that they start sending it back to me, I know I'm where I'm supposed to be!
