TEACHING EXPERIENCE

K-12 art teacher since 1992 - focusing on hands-on, integrated learning experiences.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Everyone can create. Art is work, not magic. But it can be magical. Art is seeing, feeling, pondering, understanding the ideas of another. It's that thing that connects us to other people throughout time and across the globe, and also to the classmates you share a table with this afternoon. Everyone needs art - some just don't really know what it is yet, and that's why we must have it in schools. Creation is the highest level of learning - art is the thread that links all the academic subjects to our own personal lives. Art enhances other subjects and at the same time stands alone as a unique and irreplaceable learning experience. In my class, academic subjects are constantly being reinforced, because Art is (and has always been) in everything - in writing, science, math, technology, history, life! Art can be fast, slow, funny, sad. It can be weird. It can be pretty. It can be smart.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My school named me an honor teacher in 1999-2000, 2013, 2014, 2015 and I was named Teacher of the Year for 2000-01 and 2018-19. My blog, Mrs. Knight's Smartest Artists, has also won several awards.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a BFA degree in Drawing and Painting from the University of Southern Mississippi and I earned my teacher certification at the University of Georgia.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a painter, potter, and printmaker and I have also worked as a muralist. I am the wife of Chef Alan and the mother of Kinsey and Mak. I love sharing the world of art with my students everyday and discovering new ways to solve problems through creative thinking.
