TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have recently retired after 27 years as a Classroom Teacher in Northern California. I spent most of my time in 4th, 5th and 6th grade. I worked as a Technology Coach, GATE Teacher and later worked with a team of people to found STREAM Charter School in Oroville California. My wife Leanne (also a retired teacher) and I have team-taught classrooms at the third and fifth grade level. Most all of the lessons and resources offered at this store are classroom tested, refined and optimized for quick and easy use by experienced teachers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have found my students learn best when engaged! Busy work, lectures and endless comprehension questions and quizzes have kids bored and unmotivated to make progress. As a teacher, I looked for ways to inspire learning through hands-on activity, energized discussion, reading and writing with purpose and making real things to be shared and inspire quality. LEGOs, microphones, novels, robots, computer programs, games and simulations were a daily part of my classroom for nearly 30 years!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Author of the book: Raise your Own Dang Kids! Available as an ebook or as a paperback on Amazon.com.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I began teaching in 1993. Before teaching I worked in construction, radio and as a Youth Pastor. My wife began teaching in 1988, and we worked together in each other's classrooms, and shared (team taught) classes at the 3rd and 5th grade level. I had all three on our children as students. Most of my classroom experience is in the 4-6 grade levels. In 2014, my wife and I worked with an amazing team of educators and parents to found STREAM Charter School in Oroville California. The school continues with 300 students and an equal number of students on a waiting list. The school is steadily expanding and expects to double in size in the next few years.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Leanne and I retired in 2021, moving to Spokane to be near our grandchildren. We have been married since 1987. Our3 adult children remain close, (though not always geographically!) Abi and her husband are nearby in the Spokane Valley Region. Our middle daughter Emily and her husband live in Northern California where she teaches 1st grade. Drew (our entrepreneur) is a technology reviewer and commentator on Youtube with 100s of thousands of followers (check him out on Tailosive Tech)! Drew and his wife also live in Northern California.
