Hello! My name is David, and I have been an ESL / EAL / EFL teacher in both private and international schools in China and Taiwan, teaching students from 60+ countries, since 2005. Over the years, I have worked in both IB-PYP and more mainstream school settings teaching children from pre-k to grade 6. I am the primary WIDA test administrator for our school here in Taiwan. I also taught freshmen English at a Chinese university for a year.
I believe that mastery comes through understanding, that understanding is rooted in a desire to learn, and that all students learn more when they are truly motivated than when they are disinterested in the subject matter regardless of their individual level of ability, background, or prior knowledge. I believe students have the best chance of doing this when they are inspired to love what they are learning!
Yet to be added
I got my bachelor's degree in history, social studies, and education from Eastern Michigan University in 2005 and my master's degree in ESL and English language development from Concordia University, Portland Oregon, in 2014. I have also been a student of Chinese, which I have used daily since moving overseas, from 2003 on.
I love to travel, hike, play chess, ride my bike, study Chinese, and river trace (i.e., go canyoning up a river and jump off of waterfalls all day). Come to Taiwan and try it out!
