I have a degree in Special Education (mild/moderate) and a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language. During my college years, I gained experience as a substitute teacher and a para-educator (both mild/mod to severe classroom settings). I also taught English in both China, Mexico and adult English learning centers before starting my current job at my school where I have been teaching both Special Education (mild/moderate) and ESL for 5 years. I have also loved coteaching a World Cultures elective and doing our school's Geography Bee each year.
Mindset is everything. If a student is motivated to learn and invested in the material, they will remember the information, want to apply it, and develop not only a love of learning, but more confidence in themselves. To change a mindset, I believe a student needs to find joy in their learning, see how it applies to their life personally, and feel progress in their skills.
