TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for over 20 years between Texas and Southern California. I have experience working in a border community and have experience teaching ESL, LEP, Sped, GT, bilingual, autistic, and BIC students. I have taught PAP and AP courses as well as trailer courses for students who have repeated science classes multiple times. I have a strong art background so many of my resources have an infusion of art.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to teach my students using a lot of art and visuals. We create colorful foldables together and research questions that come up daily. I like for my students to be very creative in class. I also show real-life examples. It is important that students understand how science concepts they learn in school can be applied to their everyday life and occupations. I think it is important for students to not only learn the content but to know a little bit about the scientists and time that went into the discovery and establishment of the scientific ideas. My main goal is to foster respect and curiosity for Science while providing my students with the tools they need to be able to investigate further independently.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was honored by College Board as a promising new AP Science teacher and by my school district.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Art from the University of Texas at El Paso. I earned my teaching certificate at Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. I received my Masters's Degree in Teaching Multidisciplinary studies from Webster University. I also have graduate hours in Biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am not only a teacher but a parent and an artist as well. I have completed murals for churches in the El Paso area. I also illustrate and create murals for private families and businesses. I write and illustrate children's books. I currently have an adult coloring book called "Abandoned, Reclaimed, Illuminated" available on Amazon or immediate download here on TpT.
