TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Having earned a BA in English with History at a UK University, and trained as an English teacher, I completed my first three years as a qualified teacher in two UK schools. In my planning, I regularly provide students with paragraph structures and writing frames, in some cases modelled live, in order to nurture a writing style that meets with GCSE requirements. I deliver lessons in an original and creative way in order to capture the students’ interest and keep them on task. I am experienced in the delivery and planning of a variety of schemes, including genres such as the gothic, the works of Dickens, Shakespeare and Golding, and dystopian fiction for KS3, and 19th century prose and conflict poetry for KS4. For all schemes of work, knowledge organizers which include key vocabulary, character function and context, are utilized. These organizers, and in particular, the key vocabulary that they contain, aid in weaving the Ofsted ‘golden threads’ of knowledge. This creates a comprehensive journey of learning for each student starting from KS3 and ending in KS5. Additionally, my passion for History as a subject has helped me to relay a unique contextual understanding of extended texts, which also promotes an integration of cross-curricular subjects. I have worked at an International School in Dubai since the commencement of the school year (2021). This transition from the UK has provided me with brilliant opportunities to become well versed in Dubai customs and Emirati culture. As the Head of Year 9 I've played a central part in the structuring of Emirati provision plans, organizing school trips, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the cohort. In addition, I have also been appointed the designated E-Safety lead for the year group, and formulate the weekly 'Cultural Capital' sessions for KS3. My responsibilities as an English and Drama teacher, Head of Year, and mentor to an ECT have honed and refined my organizational skills. Furthermore, these roles have resulted in a significant amount of parental communication, providing me with valuable experience liaising and negotiating with parents from a wide range of backgrounds.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In the time I've been teaching I've managed to create strong and positive relationships with my students and earn the respect of colleagues. I have a can-do attitude and I'm always prepared to go above and beyond what's required of me in order to get the job done. I feel one of my strongest attributes as an educator is my ability to be an approachable authority figure, whilst also managing behaviour effectively using a range of techniques. I am of the belief that humour and personality also play a key part in becoming a figure of respect in a school environment. . I believe in the fundamental British ethos whereby all students are given equal opportunity and challenged to the best of their ability. I feel that a key part of knowing how to best assess for learning, and differentiate to meet the needs of all learners, is also knowing how to constantly reflect upon one's own teaching practice. This was instilled in me from an early age, due in part to the International Baccalaureate's enforcement of reflection for improvement, a system that I underwent in my own schooling.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have recieved a degree in English with History, and obtained Second Class Honors (Upper Division). I also achieved PGCE, QTS and NQT qualification in the UK. 8 week TES subject knowledge enhancement completed.
