I have six years experience working as a primary school teacher and 15 years working in children's mental health.
I am influenced by John Hattie’s evidence based research into the influences on student learning and the Vygotsky inspired Gradual Release of Responsibility Model which devolves responsibility from the teacher to the student to improve independence. I ensure inclusive and engaging environments, where learning is explicit, effective feedback is provided regularly, and students are supported to develop self-regulatory attributes. I believe it is necessary to incorporate a range of instructional and teaching strategies to ensure best possible student outcomes. I incorporate Kagan’s Cooperative Learning Strategies including timed pair shares, carousels, and reciprocal teaching in my teaching and love VCOP Big Write!!
